The UT Excise Department sealed 17 liquor vends over the non-payment of licence fee last night.

According to sources, the department had issued notice under Section 36C of the Punjab Excise Act, 1914, for cancellation of licence, but the licensees failed to appear before the department.

Earlier, 18 liquor vends were sealed for licence fee default.

The sources said the department was considering blacklisting these licensees in view of the fee default by them every month. As per the provisions of the Act, the department can debar them from participation in tender process in future.
