Mohali, August 17

As many as 7,294 applications for unique ID cards for Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) have been received of which 2,512 have been issued and others are being processed in Mohali.

“We target to cover all PWDs under the project in the next three months,” said Mohali DC Girish Dayalan. To get the cards made under the Unique ID for PwDs project, swablambancard.gov.in portal has been made. Any divyang can register on it either online or by visiting nearest sewa kendra, health centre, office of the Civil Surgeon or district social security or that of child development project officer. He urged the PwDs to register themselves earliest in order to obtain unique ID cards and digitised certificates.

Harvinder Singh Rahi, District Social Security Officer (DSSO), said apart from all facilities extended under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016, the card holders are entitled to half fare facility in Punjab Roadways and PRTC buses and the pension benefit provided by the Social Security Department under the Financial Assistance Scheme.
