A Mohali court acquitted Jammu and Kashmir resident Harpuneet Singh and Sohana resident Gurpreet Singh in a criminal conspiracy case related to sticking of prohibited posters of Gurpatwant Singh Pannun’s New York-based Sikhs for Justice organisation, an unlawful association, near CGC Landran College on July 6, 2017.

The court noted that there was no cogent and convincing evidence brought on record by prosecution to prove the complicity of the accused in the alleged occurrence.

“There are gaping holes in the case of the prosecution. The prosecution has failed miserably to prove the charged offences against both the accused,” the order, dated January 18, read.

A case had been registered against US residents Gurpratap Singh, Jagdeep Singh, Jagjeet Singh, Jammu and Kashmir resident Harpuneet Singh and Sohana resident Gurpreet Singh under sections 124 A, 153 A, 153 B, and 120-B of the Indian Penal Code at the Sohana police station on July 6, 2017. Gurpreet, who owned a printing press in Phase-5, was arrested on July 6, while Harpuneet, who runs a SK Publicity Printing Press in Jammu, was arrested on November 6, 2017.
