Two youths, including a 19-year-old girl, died while three others were injured in a car crash in the wee hours on Monday. The accident occurred as the driver of the car they were travelling lost control and hit a tree near the Sector 88-89 light points around 2.15 am today. Saksham (22) and Rhythm Sethi (19), occupying the front seats, died on the spot, Krishna Aneja and Kapil Rajput were seriously injured, and Rasik Grover sustained minor injuries. One of the injured called the police to inform them about the accident.

The victims, all hailing from Saharanpur, were going from Kharar to Chandigarh to attend a birthday party. Rhythm was studying at a private institute in Kharar, while the other four had come from Saharanpur to meet her. The police said that they are awaiting the viscera report of the victims to ascertain if it is a case of drunk driving. The police said Rhythm, the only daughter in her family, had lost her mother recently. On the basis of a statement from her father, the police have initiated an investigation under Section 174 of the CrPC.
