Chandigarh: The police detained a man following a brawl between two groups over a parking-related issue at the Sector 26 grain market on Saturday afternoon. The police recovered a pistol along with magazine from the spot. However, no gunshots had been fired. Both the parties have shops in the mandi. All other persons involved in the incident are being questioned. The police are also scrutinising the CCTV footage. One person, identified as Shahid, suffered injuries. TNS

Pritham Sahai Gatka Akhara, Ludhiana, won the first prize, while Shaheeda Singhan Gatka Akhara, Nawanshahr, claimed the second position. Wadhera wins tennis c’ship

Chandigarh: Yatharth Wadhera won his maiden boys’ U-14 Championship Series at Jind. Wadhera defeated his fellow player Japnit Charaya 6-1 6-2 to win the title. Wadhera and Agam Singh defeated Charaya and Guhaneshver in the doubles’ final. Wadhera got 25 AITA points in each event and Japneet got 20. TNS

Aranaya clinches Taekwondo silver

Panchkula: Aranaya Thakur won silver medal in the Fujairah Open International Taekwondo Championship. The 15-year-old martial art trainee won the second position in the under-59kg category. Last year she had won a bronze medal in the 12th Asian Junior Taekwondo Championship. TNS

Netball trials today

Chandigarh: The Netball Sports Promotion Association of Chandigarh will organise trials to select a local team for the upcoming 1st Mix Senior National Netball Championship to be held from February 29 to March 2 at Goa. The trials will be held on February 11 (3 pm) at Panjab University campus grounds.
