2 arrested for robbery bid

Panchkula: The Crime Branch on Tuesday arrested two more suspects, including a minor, in a robbery attempt case in Madanpur village on February 15. One of the suspect is a resident of Bhelwa village, district Mungar of Bihar. The police recovered 15 cartridges from them. The police said some miscreants tried to rob a jeweller at the Madanpur village on February 15 and fired gunshots in the air. The police team had arrested six individuals, including a minor, on February 21 and arrested the seventh suspect, a resident of Jind, on February 25. The police carried out further investigation and arrested two more suspects, including a minor, with 15 bullets. OC

12 libraries to come up in Mohali

Mohali: Twelve new libraries would be set up in Mohali district villages soon, Mohali MLA Kulwant Singh said. He added that of the total 12 libraries approved for the district, six would be set up in Mohali constituency. Kick-starting the construction work at Mauli Baidwan, Bhago Majra and Maujpur villages today, he also handed over first installment of Rs 10 lakh each to the panchayats besides performing ground breaking ceremony. He said the libraries would be equipped with ultra-modern facilities such as air-conditioners, inverters, CCTV cameras, Wi-Fi and others. He added that the libraries would be helpful to bring the behavioural changes in the youth. OC

3 arrested in snatching case

Chandigarh: Three people, including a shopkeeper, have been arrested in Chandigarh in connection with a snatching case. Complainant Reetu Sharma, a Sector 34 resident, had reported that she had taken her dog for a walk when two motorcycle-borne miscreants snatched her mobile phone at Sector 33/34 dividing road on February 26. Two snatchers identified as Rohan (18) and Deepak (21) were arrested. Satish Kumar, who has a kiosk at Sector 22 market, was held later. TNS

Man booked for trespassing

Chandigarh: A man has been booked for trespassing into a booth that was sealed by the Estate Office. According to the Chandigarh police, Estate Office tehsildar Vinay Chaudhary had complained that Joginder Singh trespassed into booth No. 50 at Phase-II, Ram Darbar. A case has been registered at Sector 31 police station. TNS

Suspended official gets bail

Chandigarh: A local court has granted bail to suspended drug controller Sunil Chaudhary in a bribery case registered by the vigilance department. Chaudhary surrendered before the court on February 1 after a case was registered on a complaint of Deo Sharan Sah, a resident of Dhanas. As per vigilance the complainant, Choudhary was demanding bribe through mediator Ashok Narula to settle a notice issued in the name of Firm M/s Devine Surgical. The counsel of the accused told the court that his client was falsely implicated in the case. TNS

Hockey trials on February 29

Chandigarh: Hockey Chandigarh will organise trials on February 29 to select a team for participating in the 14th Hockey India Senior Women National Championship, to be held at Pune (Maharashtra) from March 13 to 23. The trials will be held on February 29 at 4pm at Sector 42 Sports Complex. Players registered with the Hockey Chandigarh will be eligible to take part in the trials.
