Hotel G Plaza on Zirakpur-Chandigarh road and Hotel New Style near Chandigarh-Zirakpur barrier owner Praveen Kumar alleged that a group of persons demanded Rs 50,000 per month extortion. When they were refused, the irate mob went on a rampage, vandalising the hotel premises and damaging cars parked outside them.

Praveen added that a person had come on July 21 and July 24 and created ruckus in the hotels and threatened the manager after which bouncers were deployed at both the premises.

On Saturday, the group, armed with sticks and rods, came in cars and bikes, and parked them at a distance. They vandalised the hotel reception, furniture and LEDs, and attacked the guests.

Investigating officer Jaswant Singh and his team reached the spot.

The hotel owners’ association has demanded a strict action against the miscreants and security against them. The present case is said to be a fallout of the tussle between two groups of extortionists.
