237 meritorious Class 12 students of government schools in city honoured

Punjab Governor and UT Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria today felicitated 237 meritorious Class 12 students from government schools in the city during a ceremony at Post Graduate Government College for Girls, Sector 42.

Students, who scored over 90% marks, were presented certificates and an incentive of Rs 5,000 each at the programme organised by the Education Department. The principals and teachers of four government schools that achieved 100% result, were also felicitated.

The Administration also formally launched three new initiatives in the field of education, which will not only benefit students, but also give a new direction to the education system of the city.

Under the ‘Adopt-a-School Mentorship Initiative’, senior officials of the Administration, doctors, lawyers, sportspersons, entrepreneurs and experts from other fields will adopt schools and provide guidance to students on topics like health, hygiene, moral values, cyber awareness and life skills. Under the initiative, 42 government schools have been included, which will benefit about 60,000 students.

The Governor said under an MoU signed between the Education Department and reputed coaching institutes of the city under the ‘Udaan Project’, about 700 brilliant students will be provided free coaching for national-level competitive examinations like JEE, NEET, IAS, PCS and NDA. While launching the “Cashless Campus” service, Kataria, called it a revolutionary step in the education system.

Urgent need for clean energy: Kataria

UT Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria emphasised that clean energy is not merely an option but a responsibility that each one must shoulder. “By investing in solar energy, electric mobility and sustainable practices, we are not just modernising infrastructure, but safeguarding the future of the next generation,” he said at the Green Future Leadership Summit, organised by the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry here on Wednesday. The summit brought together policymakers, clean energy experts, innovators and industry leaders from Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh to discuss strategies for accelerating the shift toward a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable energy future.

Environmental workshop concludes

Kataria also attended the closing ceremony of a three-day environmental workshop organised jointly by Vidya Bharati, North Zone, and Regional Medicinal Plants Board, Joginder Nagar, Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India, at the NITTTR here on Wednesday. The workshop witnessed discussions on promoting medicinal plants, preserving traditional knowledge and increasing public awareness through environmental education.
