As per directions received from Justice Jaswant Singh, Punjab and Haryana High Court-cum-Executive Chairman, State Legal Services Authority, UT, Chandigarh, an inspection team comprising Paramjeet Singh, District and Sessions Judge-cum-Chairman, District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), UT, and Ashok Kumar Mann, Chief Judicial Magistrate-cum-Secretary, DLSA, UT, conducted a visit to Snehalaya, a shelter home for destitute and abandoned children in Maloya; Children’s Home for Girls, Sector 15, and Observation and Special Home, Sector 25, Chandigarh.
During the inspection, Rajni Gupta, Company Secretary, Chandigarh Child and Women Developsment Corporation, and Bisman Ahuja, programme manager, Union Territory Child Protection Society, were present as representatives of the Social Welfare Department.
The team said in all three homes, adequate sanitisation had been conducted by the authorities, children had been provided with adequate quantity of soaps, clean towels, masks and sanitisers and medical room had been prepared for quarantine in case of requirement. The team directed the staff to conduct compulsory medical screening of all children and hold awareness sessions.
The team was informed limited staff had been given access and permission for entering the premises of child care institutions, adequate cleanliness and hygiene was ensured in the institution, all new admissions were being thoroughly examined. — TNS
