A Daily Diary Report (DDR) has been registered in the incident. On the other hand, the cops complained that Japjot, a Sector 15 resident, allegedly tried to tear their uniform.

Complainant’s father DJ Singh alleged that his son was beaten up mercilessly and senior police officials were pressuring him to strike a compromise. He has demanded a probe and strict action against the ‘erring’ cops.

Japjot claimed that his car driver had met an accident with another vehicle in Phase 7, Mohali, after which both the vehicles were taken to the police station. Japjot agreed to pay the damages to the owner of the other vehicle, but sought the release of his car following which arguments began at the police station. As he tried to film the incident, the three cops allegedly dragged him to the record room and thrashed him mercilessly. His one arm got fractured as the cops beat him with sticks, Japjot alleged.

SP (Headquarters) Ramandeep Singh said, “The three policemen have been sent to police lines and a departmental inquiry has been initiated for not handling the case properly. We are probing the matter.”
