A Chandigarh court has dismissed a discharge application filed by Balwinder Singh Sialka, one of 23 leaders of SAD who had been booked by the Chandigarh Police for allegedly attacking some cops and violating an order of the Deputy Commissioner three years ago. The police had registered a case against the 23 Akali leaders, including Bikram Singh Majithia, on November 6, 2021, for offences punishable under The IPC during a protest. The FIR was registered on the complaint of an inspector who alleged that the Akali leaders attacked some policemen when they were protesting near the MLA hostel in Sector 3, Chandigarh.

The leaders wanted to go to the official residence of Punjab Chief Minister to submit a memorandum regarding the demands of farmers and people of Punjab. The police installed barricades in front of the CM’s residence. The inspector said on the instigation of senior leaders of the party a large numbers of Akali workers tried to break the barricades and also started attacking them. Due to this, he along with other policemen were injured.

Sialka in the discharge application denied the charges and said all allegations were wrong and baseless as the protest was peaceful.

The photographs attached by the police officials were morphed and made to believe to be of the same day when the alleged crime was committed while he was not even present at the scene. He said no case has been made out against the accused and the story has been planted just to damage the reputation of the accused and SAD. He said no medical reports had been produced by the police.

After hearing the arguments the court dismissed the application and adjourned the case for framing of charges.
