Four persons, including a woman, sustained gunshot wounds after a guard’s weapon went off accidentally outside a jewellery shop in Phase 3B2. Kharar resident Pal Singh, 65, the guard who was carrying the weapon, said two gunshots were fired accidentally after the gun he was carrying fell around 12.30 pm today. A passerby, an employee of a nearby shop and two others sustained injuries and were rushed to a private hospital. One of the victims, Sohan Singh, who had come to use an ATM, said he sustained injuries in his leg and hand. The other three victims, Aarti, Jai and Saahil were discharged from the hospital.

The owner of the jewellery shop refused to comment on the incident. Senior police officials reached the spot and began an investigation. The police are probing how the weapon was fired, whether the guard had a valid gun licence, and if he was following the safeguarding rules while handling the weapon. The weapon was recovered by the Mataur police.
