4 of family injured as power pole collapses on car in Zirakpur

The victims were rushed to a nearby private hospital for immediate medical attention

Four members of a family, including a child, sustained serious injuries when an electricity pole and wires fell on a car parked on roadside near Nabha Sahib Gurdwara in Zirakpur today morning. Locals said electricity wires got entangled in an HP registered truck passing through the road.

Victim Kush Jindal, 66, son, daughter-in-law, and grandson were inside the car, parked on the roadside, waiting for another vehicle when the pole fell on their four-wheeler suddenly. The victims sustained serious injuries and were rushed to a nearby private hospital. The car was badly damaged in the incident.

The electricity cable network was snapped as the impact brought down a nearby power pole on the vehicle. The truck driver reportedly fled the spot, leaving behind his vehicle. Locals said the driver was reversing his truck on the road heading from Patiala Chowk to Nabha Sahib when the wires got entangled in the vehicle.

Power supply in the Lohgarh, VIP Road, Green Lotus and the Dyalpura area was snapped and remained affected till afternoon. Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) and police officials reached the spot and began the repair work. On the complaint of PSPCL officials, a case of negligent driving was registered against the absconding driver at the Zirakpur police station. Officials claimed that the damages would be recovered from the truck driver.
