The food safety team, Patiala, led by District Health Officer Gurpreet Kaur, has intensified its crackdown on food adulteration in the district.

After the recent seizure and destruction of 1,380 kg of spurious paneer, the department has now seized approximately 40 quintal of expired turmeric (haldi) from a spice manufacturing unit in Rajpura on June 13. Gurpreet said that samples of various other spices were also taken by the team during this operation.

In the month of June, the food safety team had collected around 20 samples of various food articles from different locations. Furthermore, a surveillance drive was conducted to detect the presence of nicotine in paan masala as part of the ongoing monitoring efforts, she added. The District Health Officer further said that the Food Safety Department reiterated its firm stance against food adulteration. Strict legal action will be taken against all those involved in the manufacture or sale of adulterated or unsafe food products, said the officer. The department is committed to protecting public health and will not tolerate any compromise in food safety standards, she added.
