439 challaned for drunk driving in Panchkula in July

The police have issued 439 challans in July alone, acting under the directive of Commissioner of Police Sibash Kabiraj.

The month-long campaign aimed at promoting road safety and protecting lives was carried out with strict enforcement across the city.

The drive was spearheaded by Inspector Sunil Kumar, in-charge of the Traffic Police Station, and Sub-Inspector Narendra Kumar, head of the Surajpur Traffic Unit.

Police teams were further deployed across six key checkpoints every night, equipped with alcohol testing devices to monitor drivers under the influence.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP, Crime and Traffic) Amit Dahiya praised the relentless efforts of the traffic police staff—from inspectors to constables, home guards, and SPOs—stating that the results reflect their dedication to public safety.

He also stressed that drunk driving is not just a violation of traffic laws, but a life-threatening act that endangers both the driver and others on the road.

The DCP further went on to appeal to the city residents to act responsibly and avoid driving after consuming alcohol.

Citizens were also urged to report any instances of drunk driving they witness, to help prevent potential tragedies.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Traffic Surender Singh, meanwhile, highlighted that driving under the influence significantly increases the chances of road accidents.

“It puts not only the driver’s life at risk but also endangers passengers, pedestrians, and fellow motorists,” he said, reiterating that the campaign was not limited to one month and will be enforced more strictly in the future.
