The police have recovered five uniforms bearing National Investigation Agency (NIA) markings from the eight persons arrested for faking as a team from the agency.

During the investigation, it has come out that the gang extorted Rs 1.35 lakhs from Mahesh Gupta, a Delhi resident, during a fake raid at his house.

The police said several cases were likely to be solved after their interrogation.

Those arrested included two New Delhi women, Jyoti and Neelam, Maloya resident Balwinder Singh, Ropar resident Radhey Shyam, Uttam Nagar in New Delhi resident Rajkumar, Jhajjar resident Nitesh Kumar, Sirsa resident Subhash Chander and Bahadurgarh resident Sushil Kumar. Three other suspects in the case are absconding.

The police said on July 17, an eight-member fake NIA team was trying to extort money from Veerpal Singh on the pretext of a land deal in Delhi on which reportedly a fraud was committed. The police said the suspects were produced in a court, which sent them to police remand.
