50 NSS volunteers depart for mountaineering training in Spiti

National Service Scheme (NSS) volunteers from Haryana today departed for a 10-day adventure camp at the sub-centre of Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Mountaineering and Allied Sports in Jispa in Lahaul and Spiti, Himachal.

S Narayanan, Director General of the Department of Higher Education, Haryana, was the chief guest at the flag-off ceremony organised at Government College, Sector 1. Fifty volunteers from 11 universities of and four programme officers are part of the contingent.

State NSS Officer Dinesh Kumar informed that it was the first adventure camp of the current session. Along with leading in NSS activities, Haryana is the only state in the country that organises 10 adventure camps annually at the Manali, McLeodganj, and Jispa (Lahaul-Spiti) centres of the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute for the holistic development of the NSS volunteers.

“This adventure camp enhance their inner strength and also guide them toward becoming empowered and responsible citizens,” Narayan said, adding, “I have myself been associated with the NSS as a volunteer. NSS is a wonderful platform for personality development through community service.”
