Panjab University secured a Rs 81-lakh research grant from the Department of Science and Technology to develop commercially scalable, eco-friendly composite panels made entirely from plant-based raw materials.

The project seeks to replace petroleum-based binders with renewable, biodegradable alternatives, addressing both environmental pollution and fossil fuel dependence.

Vice-Chancellor Renu Vig congratulated the research team and industry collaborators. The project will be led by Dr SSB University Institute of Chemical Engineering & Technology Chairperson Prof Anupama Sharma. It will be carried out in collaboration with Sivalik Agro Products Pvt Ltd, headed by Dr GD Tyagi. Co-investigators Prof Sonal Singhal and Dr Mukta Sharma will contribute expertise from multiple disciplines to ensure the project’s success.

Girls’ hostel unveiled

Vice-Chancellor Renu Vig also inaugurated Devi Ahilyabai Hall (Girls’ Hostel No. 11) on the Sector 25 campus, expanding residential facilities for women scholars. Addressing the gathering, the VC highlighted the university’s commitment to quality student housing and noted that the hostel is named after Devi Ahilyabai Holkar, a symbol of women’s leadership and empowerment.

Submission of exam forms

The PU announced the schedule for the submission of examination forms and fees for various courses. Students enrolled in the first, third, fifth, seventh and ninth semesters can begin submitting their examination forms via the university’s online portal from August 18. The last date for submission of forms without late fee is September 17.
