Following orders from MC Commissioner Anindita Mitra, 18 teams of SDEs and JEs of the MC started checking the misuse of potable water from 5.30 am to 8.30 am. It was the first day of the drive and several violators were found misusing drinking water at their houses. A fine of Rs. 5,000 was imposed on those challaned. Under the annual drive from April 15 to June 30, watering of lawns and courtyards, and washing of cars and other vehicles using a hosepipe invites a challan of Rs. 5,000, while notices are issued if tanks, taps, water meters and water coolers are found leaking by MC teams. Those served notices have been asked to get the leakage fixed within two days. Most violators were found washing their cars and courtyards.
