AAP demands CBI probe into free bookings of Chandigarh community centres

Alleging misappropriation of funds, the leaders of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) have demanded a CBI or vigilance inquiry into free bookings of the community centres under false names and using forged signatures of officials concerned.

AAP city unit president Vijaypal Singh, general secretary Sunny Aulakh, leader of Opposition in the Municipal Corporation House Jaswinder Kaur, other councilors in a press conference alleged that the civic body has been duped of crore through fake bookings made under the name of “poor people”.

Dhingra demanded that inquiry be marked for all bookings made free of cost. He took note of the 140 bookings at the Sector 37 community centre, saying 102 were made free of cost.

He alleged that the “organised exploitation” was carried out through forged documents, fake stamps of councillors, falsified signatures and manipulation by middlemen posing as municipal staff.

Councillor Manaur, meanwhile, said his signature had been forged for one of the bookings. In one case, he noted, an applicant with no connection with his ward was provided free booking.

Singh urged the entire community centre booking process be immediately made fully digital via the e-office portal to eliminate middlemen and unauthorised agents and to curb revenue leaks and manipulation in manual processes.

AAP leaders also demanded an immediate withdrawal of the agenda for increasing the booking rates.
