AAP demands Rs50L for kin of driver who died on Covid duty

Activists of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) today held a protest demanding Rs 50 lakh compensation and a job for family member of driver Manjit Singh, who died of a heart attack while on Covid duty on April 26. The deceased was resident of Sangrur. He drove one of the buses sent by the PRTC to bring back devotees stranded in Nanded Sahib.

The state government had announced Rs 10 lakh for the driver’s family. AAP leaders said the family should be provided Rs 50-lakh aid and a government job to one of its members.

Dr Balbir Singh, co-president, AAP, Punjab wing, said, “Manjit Singh is the first frontline warrior in the state, who died on duty.” Meanwhile, Jaskiran Singh, MD, PRTC, said Rs 50-lakh aid was meant for government employees. Manjit Singh was hired under the PRTC’s kilometre scheme, he added. — TNS
