Holding placards, AAP leaders and workers today protested at the entrance gate of the Municipal Corporation building against the “hefty” waste collection charges.

Senior AAP leader Chandermukhi Sharma said: “After the water tariff hike, the waste collection charges are a huge blow to residents. The MC must review its decision. There is a total confusion among locals.”

“City residents were shocked as they received water bills with huge waste collection charges. Some of the residents received bills as high as Rs3,000 to Rs4,000. The latest bill mentions the charges up to June 15 with arrears, but residents are confused over its duration,” said the protesters.

The MC, which claimed to have started the waste collection through its 490 newly bought two-bin waste vehicles, has apparently failed to implement the idea in most of the sectors.
