AAP takes up water shortage in villages with Chandigarh MC Commissioner

A delegation of councillors and leaders of the Aam Aadmi Party, led by Chandigarh unit president Vijaypal Singh has taken up the issue of insufficient water supply in villages with the Municipal Commissioner.

They alleged that there is a total breakdown of drinking water supply in villages. They said residents of Raipur Khurd, Mauli Jagran, Chaudhary Charan Singh Colony and other localities were not getting proper water supply for months.

Despite repeated complaints and public follow-ups, the situation continues to deteriorate—causing serious hardship, financial burden, and significant health risks for thousands of residents, they added.

The AAP members said in Raipur Khurd a primary tubewell motor, located in the park near Sampark Centre, was non-functional for over six months.

Water meters are inoperative, making it impossible to regulate distribution, the alleged. The residents are compelled to rely on private water tankers, spending Rs 500–Rs 700 per trip. Despite repeated assurances from officials, water supply has not been restored, they added.

In Mauli Jagran, tubewell near Shiv Mandir Park has been non-functional for several months. Sewage is getting mixed with drinking water supply, resulting in illnesses such as typhoid and diarrhoea. The pipeline infrastructure had been severely damaged and lacks filtration systems. House 1 to 1500 in Vikas Nagar, located on higher ground, remain completely cut off from water access.

A tubewell motor is defunct in Chaudhary Charan Singh Colony and has not been repaired for a long period. The residents are forced to fetch water either from dispensaries or cross into Panchkula. The residents of Palsora, Daddumajra and Ram Darbar, Phase 2, are also facing the same problem. They said if corrective measures were not initiated, they will be compelled to escalate the matter through public demonstrations and legal recourse.
