Chandigarh, July 8

Producing an accused, who was not wearing a mask, before the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission has cost the jail authorities dear.

Taking a serious view of the lapse, the commission has directed the Jail Superintendent, Model Jail, Chandigarh, to take action against the erring officials and inform the commission. When the commission asked the reason, the Head Constable concerned stated that the accused was handed over to them without a mask.

The accused has stated that there was no mask left in the jail. “It is strange that the government departments are violating the mandatory provisions. It is further directed that if there is a shortage of funds for buying masks, the jail officials may contact the commission and collect Rs5,000 for the purpose,” the commission stated.

The commission sent the accused to judicial custody till July 20. The order was pronounced by commission comprising Rajan Dewan as the president and Priti Malhotra and BM Sharma as members.
