He was presiding over the monthly meeting of the District Road Safety Committee at the Mini-Secretariat today.

A 41-point agenda, including road accidents, checking and challaning of school buses and accident-prone spots, was discussed during the meeting.

“The offenders should be strictly challaned so that motorists don’t face inconvenience,” he said.

He also instructed officials to regularise parking spaces.

“On World Car-Free Day on September 22, motorists will be encouraged to give up their private car for a day to make them realise how much pollution affects our lives and highlight how we can decongest roads in different ways. Alternative transportation modes such as carpooling will be promoted,” he said.

He asked officials to work for improving traffic management in the district.

Officials from the police, Municipal Corporation, Public Works Department (PWD), Haryana Shahri Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP), National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), Roadways and the Education Department were present at the meeting.

Road safety volunteers also attended the meeting.
