AIIMS chief delivers talk on good governance at PGI

The Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education & Research (PGIMER) hosted the fifth Prof IC Pathak Oration today to pay tribute to former Director and founding Chairman of the Department of Paediatric Surgery Prof Iqbal Chand Pathak.

Prof M Srinivas, Director, All India Institute of Medical Sciences(AIIMS), New Delhi, and eminent paediatric surgeon, delivered the oration. PGI Director Prof Vivek Lal reminisced about the legacy of Prof IC Pathak and recollected his interactions with him.

The subject of the oration was “Good Governance & Transparency for Transformation of an Institute”. Prof Srinivas reiterated the role and principles of good governance in healthcare and establishment of transformative approach towards institute building.

Prof JK Mahajan, Head, Department of Paediatric Surgery, introduced the orator to the audience and enumerated his achievements. M Srinivas spoke at length about the simple methods of transparent administration in the realm of patient care. Elaborating on the administrative issues like procurement and recruitment in government sector, he emphasised the role of corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities of major industries and public sector undertakings.

Over 225 members, including more than 100 paediatric surgeons joining online through telemedicine services of the institute, attended the oration. Dean (Academics) Prof RK Ratho proposed the vote of thanks and emphasised the role of cooperation between the two apex institutes.
