Ambala, February 15

State Transport Minister Mool Chand Sharma today said nearly 1,500 new buses, including Volvo and pink buses for girls, will be included in the fleet of the Haryana Roadways in the next six months.

He was speaking to mediapersons after a ceremony to name the Ambala City bus stand after the late Sushma Swaraj, a former Union Minister, today. The bus stand will now be called ‘Sushma Swaraj Bus Stand’.

The minister said, “There are 3,600 buses in the Roadways fleet. The department operates 3,200 of these. There is a requirement of 4,500 buses and it will be met this year.”

The Ambala City bus stand has been reconstructed at a cost of Rs 18 crore after it was demolished in 2007. For 10 years, it has remained a political issue in Ambala City. Its foundation stone was laid in March 2018.

Addressing the gathering, the minister said, “A women’s college being constructed in Ballabhgarh will also be named after the former minister.”

Ambala City MLA Aseem Goel said he was grateful to the Chief Minister and the Transport Minister for accepting his proposal on naming the bus stand after Swaraj.

Swaraj’s brother Gulshan Sharma also addressed the gathering on the occasion.
