Amid the cholera outbreak in Kumbhra village of Mohali district, the police on Saturday registered the first FIR against two persons, for violating the orders of district magistrate, at Phase 8 Police Station here.

DSP City-2 Harsimran Singh Bal said the action has been taken against two PG owners under section 223 of the BNS. “The violators as the reports of other samples comes, would be dealt with strictly for endangering the lives of the public for defying the prohibitory orders,” he said.

Taking a serious view of the laxity in cleaning storage tanks by the house/shop/hotel/PG owners which are also proving a major cause of cholera, District Magistrate Aashika Jain directed the local authorities for strict compliance with preventive orders issued under section 163 (1) of Bhartiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanghta (BNSS).

The orders clearly stated regular cleaning of water storage tanks of houses, rented accommodations in the wake of the prevention of waterborne and vector-borne diseases.

The number of patients undergoing treatment for Cholera is 12. The total number of patients reported so far is 89 including four confirmed cases of Cholera positive.

There are three patients with Cholera positive who are undertaking treatment while one patient has been discharged.

On Saturday, MC Commissioner Navjot Kaur and ADC (Development) Sonam Chaudhary visited the village to review preventive activities on the ground.

“There are a lot of PGs who are using water supply from their shallow tube wells and storing water in underground tanks which have not been cleaned even once after construction, that is the major source of water contamination. All the owners have been directed to clean their underground water tanks with immediate effect otherwise face the action. The first case of diarrhoea was reported on July 22 at the district hospital,” officials said.
