Amid staff crunch, Panjab University gets 12 new teachers

The authorities say the university will be in a better position in terms of staff strength by the end of this year.
As of today, the university has given official appointment to 12 new teachers in eight departments on the campus and to one teacher (assistant professor) in Vishveshvaranand Vishwa Bandhu Institute of Sanskrit and Indological Studies, Hoshiarpur.
Of the 12 new teachers on the campus, eight have been appointed on positions of assistant professor and the rest have been hired as associate professors. The Sanskrit Department has got one assistant professor and one associate professor, Centre for Public Health one assistant professor, Mathematics Department one assistant professor and one associate professor, Dayanand Chair for Vedic Studies one assistant professor, School of Punjabi Studies one associate professor, Physics Department two assistant professors, Russian Language Department one assistant professor and Physical Education Department has got two assistant professors.
The positions filled are part of the 54 posts advertised by the university in 2022. The advertisements were floated for over 40 departments of the PU and of these, posts of over 30 more departments are yet to be filled. Assuring that the university is committed to hiring the best teachers, Dean of University Instruction Professor Rumina Sethi said, “The pre-screening and screening process itself takes a lot of time and each application is fully scrutinised. Even after screening, we give enough time to the candidates to appear for the interview which is about three weeks.”
Claiming that the university is most likely to see all 54 posts filled by the end of this year, Vice-Chancellor Renu Vig said, “We are putting all efforts to bring best of teachers in the university. I have been monitoring the process and all stakeholders are also working tirelessly in scrutinising the applications and interviews.”
