New Delhi, October 11

Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav today urged zoos to become financially independent and consider CSR and public-private partnerships, and focus on local birds and animals as priority species for conservation.

He was speaking at a national conference for zoo directors and veterinarians organised by the Central Zoo Authority and hosted by Sardar Patel Zoological Park, Kevadia, Gujarat, where Prani Mitra Awards were also given in various categories.

This years’ winners include Harpal Singh, Educationist, the Mahendra Chaudhary Zoological Park Chatbir (Outstanding Educationist/ Biologist Award), and Dr Vibhu Prakash Mathur, Director Vulture Conservation Breeding Centre, Pinjore (Outstanding Director).
