BJP chief, Sanjay Tandon meet Manohar Lal Khattar on Metro
Chandigarh, August 6
City BJP president Jatinder Pal Malhotra and member of BJP’s national executive Sanjay Tandon today met Manohar Lal Khattar, Union Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs, in Delhi and requested him to expedite the process to start Metro in the tricity.
In a letter submitted to the Union minister, the BJP said over the past decade Chandigarh and the surrounding regions witnessed exponential growth, leading to a surge in the demand for a reliable and efficient public transportation system. Despite the commendable efforts of the Chandigarh Administration to bolster the existing bus and road transport networks, the current infrastructure is unable to fully meet the escalating requirements of the populace.
“Recognising the urgency of the situation, we advocate the quick implementation of a Metro system as an essential alternative public transport mode. We seek your assistance in expediting the necessary procedures for the proposed project,” added the BJP.
The party chief said, “Though the Centre has already approved Metro, but there is a long process involved in setting up the project. We want the work to be expedited.”— TNS
