City BJP leaders today met Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari in Delhi and submitted a memorandum regarding the proposed Tribune flyover plan, seeking necessary modifications. The delegation was led by general secretary Ramveer Bhatti.

As per the current proposal, the flyover has been planned from the Sector 31-32 chowk to the railway overbridge covering the Tribune Chowk.

Thousands of commuters use the route to travel to and from Chandigarh, Haryana, Punjab and Delhi daily.

However, given the traffic congestion around Chandigarh-Zirakpur barrier, Hallomajra and the Industrial Area light point, the flyover in its current form may not provide the desired relief.

In the memorandum, Bhatti noted that if the flyover is extended to start from the Chandigarh-Zirakpur barrier, pass through Sector 31-32 chowk, and further ahead, it will significantly reduce the current traffic load and benefit daily commuters.

He said considering the growing traffic on roads in and around Chandigarh, a long-term solution is the need of the hour.
