MP Manish Tewari and Chandigarh Territorial Congress Committee president Harmohinder Singh Lucky addressed a public meeting at Ram Darbar today.

Addressing the gathering, Tewari pointed out that it was the UPA government from 2004 to 2014 that had built the social security architecture for the poor and the marginalised in the country. He said right to information, rural employment guarantee programme, right to free and compulsory education and the National Food Security Act were among dozens of initiatives that aimed at making the life of poor people and the aam aadmi better.

In contrast, the BJP-led NDA government, except for promoting crony capitalism and helping oligarchs to increase their wealth, did nothing for the benefit of the common people in the past 10 years, claimed Tewari, adding that all they were interested in was the politics of polarisation by the rampant use of communalism and majoritism.

Lucky emphasised that Chandigarh had become a ‘notice city’ as the CHB, the UT Administration and the Municipal Corporation keep issuing notices to ‘harass’ city residents.
