The houses were allotted under the Affordable Rental Housing Complex Scheme as part of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) in 2020. The aim was to provide a concrete roof to poor families.

Due to non-payment of rent by poor families, the CHB has now cancelled the allotment of 24 houses in Maloya. For this, notices had been issued by the CHB Secretary. The outstanding rent of each of these 24 allottees was more than Rs 2 lakh and stood at around Rs 51.84 lakh in all.

The CHB has prepared a list of allottees who have not deposited the fixed licence fee till August 12 and their dues had reached Rs 1 lakh each. There are 1,785 licence fee defaulters while 12,982 allottees under the small flat scheme are yet to clear their rental dues.
