The police apprehended a bookie who was posing as a fake customer.

According to the information received, a team led by Sector-21 chowki incharge Sub-Inspector Didar Singh was patrolling the Burdanpur area when they received a tip-off. The source informed police that a man in Rajiv Colony, Sector 17, was openly persuading people to try their luck in betting.

He was reportedly luring individuals with the promise of winning Rs 80 for every Rs 1 bet placed on a number between 1 and 100, while stating that if the chosen number did not appear, he would keep the money.

A police constable was deployed undercover as a customer and the suspect was caught red-handed during the illegal activity. The accused was identified as Deepak Rawat, son of Sarvjeet Rawat, a resident of Mauli Jagran, Chandigarh.

During the search, police recovered Rs 1,020 in cash and tools used for betting. A case has been registered.
