The India Meteorological Department (IMD) today predicted heavy to very heavy rain in Chandigarh, Punjab and Haryana from Sunday to Tuesday.

“Light rain is likely at isolated places during the next 24 to 36 hours. Thereafter, the rainfall activity is very likely to increase over the northern and eastern parts of Punjab and Haryana from the night of July 20,”said the IMD.

It said light to moderate rain was likely at most places on July 21 and 22 and at few places on July 20 and 23 in Chandigarh, Punjab and Haryana.

“Heavy rainfall (7 cm or more) is very likely during July 20 to 22 at isolated places over northern, eastern parts of Punjab and northern, eastern and southern Haryana, including Chandigarh during this spell,” said the weatherman, while warning that very heavy rain (12 cm or more) is also likely at isolated places on July 21 over parts of Chandigarh, Mohali and Panchkula.

The MeT observed light to moderate rain at few places in Haryana and isolated places in Punjab during the past 24 hours.

Meanwhile, the maximum temperature in Chandigarh was recorded at 31.7° Celsius with a fall of 2.1 degrees in the past 24 hours and departure of 1.6 degrees from the normal.
