Mohali: A Sector 56 resident, Amit, suffered serious head injuries after a clash broke out between two groups involving more than 25 persons in Badhmajra last night. One of the group of assailants, numbering around 20, assaulted five youths of the rival group. While four managed to run, Amit, the main target, was assaulted with iron rods. Several vehicles were vandalised in the incident. The victim was taken to Phase 6 Civil Hospital from where he was taken to GMCH-32. Balongi police are investigating the matter. Cops said the victim is not in a condition to record statement. TNS

Woman falls off balcony, dies

Zirakpur: A 21-year-old woman, Shrishti, a resident of Delhi, died after reportedly falling off the balcony of the second floor of a hotel in Dhakoli in the wee hours. The deceased was returning from Himachal Pradesh after a sightseeing trip with her friends and had stopped near a roadside hotel on Zirakpur-Panchkula highway. Cops said around 1.30am on Wednesday, the victim felt uneasy and was taken to a private hospital. Her friends and she returned from the hospital after which the incident took place, cops said. Police took the body in possession and sent it to the mortuary of Dera Bassi Civil Hospital. TNS
