Chandigarh: Crime Branch of the UT police has nabbed a 22-year-old youth with a countrymade pistol and a cartridge. The police said the suspect, identified as Rohit Kumar, alias Mochia, a resident of Kandala village, Mohali, was arrested near the motor market in Sector 48 and the illegal weapon and cartridge were recovered from him. The police have registered a case under the Arms Act at the Sector 49 police station. TNS

Man awarded 10 years’ jail term

Chandigarh: A local court has sentence a 30-year-old man to undergo 10 years’ rigorous imprisonment in a NDPS case registered in 2021. The court has also imposed a fine of one lakh on the convict. As per the prosecution, Jumman was arrested on December 7, 2021 from Sector 43 here with 1kg 50 gram charas. After investigation, the police filed a charge sheet against him under Section 20 of the NDPS Act. After hearing arguments, the court has sentenced the accused to undergo 10 years rigorous imprisonment. TNS

Millets Festival starts today

Chandigarh: Millet Festival that aims to showcase nutritional benefits and rich culinary heritage of the grains will start from Tuesday. Nikita tops the scoring charts

Chandigarh: Champions Cricket Academy, Kharar, defeated Royal Cricket Academy, Sector 27, by four wickets during the 1st RP Singh Memorial Women’s Cricket Tournament. Jhanjeri win

Mohali: The volleyball teams (men and women) of Chandigarh Group of Colleges (CGC), Jhanjeri, won gold medals in the IKGPTU Tournament. In the boys’ knockout stage, the Jhanjeri team won three matches. In the league matches, Jhanjeri topped the charts by defeating DAVIET, Jalandhar, GGI Khanna and SVIET Banur. The boys once again displayed their prowess on the volleyball court, securing victories in all three league matches. In the girls’ league, Jhanjeri defeated DAVIET, SVIET and CGC Landran.
