Building collapses in Chandigarh's Sector 17
The building housing Mehfil restaurant in Sector 17 here collapsed on Monday, triggering panic among the locals.
According to officials, there was no one inside the building when the incident occurred. Sources revealed that the structure had previously been declared unsafe.
After the collapse around 7.10 am, the area was cordoned off by the police and fire tenders were dispatched to the site.
The building was undergoing repair, but the work was later halted after the structure was declared unsafe. Consequently, the road in front of the building was closed to vehicular traffic in the last week of December.
On December 21, 2024, a four-storey building collapsed in Mohali’s Sohana village in which two persons died.
