Two constables were injured after a speeding cab jumped the red light and hit a police Gypsy at the Sector 34/35 light point on the intervening night of March 10 and 11.

The complainant, Bhupinder Singh, a Home Guards volunteer, said he along with an inspector and constables Arvind and Surjit Singh were on night patrol and after patrolling in Sector 34, they were heading towards Sector 35 when a car jumped the red light and hit their vehicle.

The police claimed that the rear door of the vehicle opened following which the two constables sitting on the rear seat fell down.

The complainant stated that the cab driver and a man accompanying him escaped from the spot, leaving the vehicle behind. Two women, who were travelling in the cab, remained at the spot.

The injured policemen were taken to the GMCH, Sector 32, in a PCR vehicle. The police impounded the car and registered a case at the Sector 36 police station. — TNS
