Around 25 used cars and other equipment kept in a godown at Bhelolpur village were gutted yesterday while 26 fire calls were received at fire stations in the district on Diwali evening.

Fire officer Mohan Lal said the owner of the godown, Jagdish Chand, claimed that he had lost goods worth Rs 10 lakh in the fire. A firecracker reportedly caused the fire, he said.

Meanwhile, a fire broke out at a house in Bhabat village, Zirakpur. A leather factory was also gutted near Shiva Enclave, Zirakpur.
