The Centre has approved 328 more electric buses for Chandigarh under the PM-e-Bus Service Scheme, marking a significant milestone in its journey towards becoming a carbon-free city. With this, the total number of e-buses approved for the city has increased to 428.

Expressing gratitude to Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal Khattar for according the approval, Punjab Governor and UT Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria said, “This major approval is the outcome of sustained efforts by the Chandigarh Administration and continuous engagement with the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs to shift the city’s bus fleet to electric mobility.”

The UT Administrator said Khattar responded positively to the initiative to promote clean transportation and reduce environmental pollution, approving UT’s additional demand under the scheme. Kataria said the allocation of 428 e-buses was a decisive step towards transforming Chandigarh into a model green city. Under the Phase II of the FAME India scheme, a fleet of 80 electric buses is already operating in the city on tricity routes.
