The UT Administration today fixed the treatment charges for Covid patients at private hospitals, nursing homes and clinics.

As per the protocol established by the Administration, the rates for private hospital beds would be all inclusive as a package. The package would include the cost of medical care of underlying comorbid conditions, including supportive care, and cost of medication for the duration of care for Covid.

However, drugs such as tocilizumab or remdesvir are excluded from the package and will be charged as per the MRP. It has been clarified that these drugs will be given to patients after an expert review.

Though the charges for medical care of comorbidities will be part of the package, emergency interventions required for comorbid conditions such as CAS would be charged extra. This would include short-term haemodialysis (one dialysis) as part of acute care during the current admissions.

The charges will not include the cost of the Covid-19 diagnostic test.

For pregnant women, the cost of delivery and care of newborn would be charged by the hospital extra as per the prevailing rates of relevant packages. Besides, major surgical procedures done on the patients during stay in the hospital will be charged extra.

The Administration has clarified that the charges for plasma therapy “beyond the ICMR study” will be discussed later as per the government guidelines.

Also, patients with mild disease who do not want to go for home isolation or government Covid care centres may opt for health facilities on a payment basis which may not be a hospital but improvised isolation facilities created in hospital or non-hospital premises.
