Shehzad said he, along with his friend Pardeep, tried to steal the cash from the ATM. Shehzad was produced before the court that remanded him in two-day police remand. Co-accused Pardeep of Ramdarbar (27) was arrested on Saturday. On a complaint of Neel Mani, Branch Manager, SBI, Sector 32, a case under Sections 380, 457, 427, 511 and 34 of the IPC has been registered at the Sector 31 police station. TNS
Body found
Mohali: The Phase 1 police found the body of a youth in the Industrial Area on Friday. They have kept the body in the mortuary of the Civil Hospital. It will remain there for the next 72 hours for the identification purpose.
Spurious salt seized, 2 held
Zirakpur: The police have arrested two shopkeepers and recovered 3.80-quintal spurious salt of a popular brand. On the complaint of company manager Rajinder Singh, a resident of Sector 35, Chandigarh, the police nabbed shop owners on the Pabhat road and booked them under the Copyright Act. The complainant stated that their firm was getting frequent complaints about spurious salt being sold in the Zirakpur area. Following complaint a raid was conducted by the police. TNS
NHAI to build village road
Mohali: SDM Sarabjit Kaur today held consultations with officials of the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) regarding the service road for residents of Khizergarh. Residents have been demanding construction of a service road to connect village with the national highway. Officials said the NHAI had agreed to build a service road for the village. The SDM, Banur Tehsildar, Project Director, NHAI, and the SHO inspected the spot on Saturday. TNS
Sharma wins 2 gold medals
Chandigarh: SM Sharma, retired Punjab DGP and vice-president, CLTA, won two gold medals in the World Police and Fire Games 2022, held at Rotterdam, Netherlands. In the 70 singles, Sharma defeated players from Germany, India and the USA to clinch gold medal. In doubles event, he played in the 60 age group, partnering a police officer from Karnataka, and defeated pair from the UK in semifinals and a Thailand pair in the finals to claim the second gold. Vedansh makes it to NBA academy
Mohali: Sixteen-year-old Vedansh Ranot of Learning Paths School has made it to the US-run NBA India Basketball Academy. Eleven players from ACG – NBA Jump 2022 will receive full scholarships to attend the academy. Vedansh started playing the game from Class III, said his father Suresh Kumar, who represented India internationally. Vedansh’s mother is also a national level basketball player and his first coach. “I took formal coaching from my mother till Class IX e and then started training under my coach Amarjit Singh,” said Vedansh. He has participated in several state level tournaments and brought glory to Mohali. TNS
Rotary club gets new president
Rupnagar: Rotarian Parminder Singh was installed new president of the Rotary Club, Rupnagar, at a ceremony organised here on Friday evening. Former Rotary International District 3080 district governor and currently member of the Punjab Infrastructure Regulatory Authority (PIRA) Manmohan Singh was chief guest on the occasion. Addressing the gathering Parminder said that club would focus on creating awareness among masses regarding environment issues and traffic problems. TNS
