Chandigarh batters scattered like cards, as the city went down by an innings and 113 runs against Uttar Pradesh in the ongoing Vijay Merchant Trophy, in Shimoga.

Batting first, Chandigarh batters bundled out at 152, and in reply, Uttar Pradesh posted 386/8 before declaring their innings. In their second innings, Chandigarh lads again ended up giving a poor performance and were packed at 121.

In the first innings, four Chandigarh batters failed to open their account. Opener Vedansh Kalkhanday remained the best run-scorer for the side, as he posted 45 off 172 balls, with six boundaries. Ishant Rawat posted 38 off 77 balls, with six boundaries, was the other notable scorer.

Krishna Yadav was the pick of the bowlers in the innings, as he picked 4/14, In reply, Uttar Pradesh innings was held by Arush Gupta, the middle-order batter posted 157 off 253 balls.

The second innings saw city batters fail again. Rawat (77 off 96 balls, with 13 boundaries and one six) and Dhiman (30) were the two main run getters for the side. Rudra returned with 6/37 for the bowling team, while Darsh picked 2/27 for the bowling side. Pritviraj and Krishna shared one wicket each.

Eves lose at U-19 event

Meanwhile, Himachal Pradesh registered an emphatic 106-run victory over Chandigarh in the opening encounter of Women's U-19 One Day Trophy Elite match at Lucknow.

Opting to bat, Himachal Pradesh posted 291/6 in 50 overs wherein Ahaana Sharma scored 120 off 80 balls, with 18 boundaries and four sixes, to trouble Chandigarh bowlers. Kanu Priya posted 69 off 97 balls. While the Himachal batters smashed bowlers, the Chandigarh batters were all-out at 185.
