Chandigarh beat Delhi by 9 wickets in Ranji Trophy tie

Chandigarh boys handed over a nine-wicket defeat to Delhi in a crucial home match of Ranji Trophy, at Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 26. After restricting Delhi for 276, Chandigarh lads amassed 324 to gain a 48-run lead.

In the second innings, the visiting side collapsed at 250, setting a 203-run target for Chandigarh.

On the last day of the match, Chandigarh lads resumed from their overnight score of 46 with openers Shivam Bhambri and Arsalan Khan at the crease.

The duo started off well to give a solid start to the hosts. Khan who was playing at 68 off 81 balls, with five boundaries and three sixes, was accounted by Sumit Mathur at the team’s total of 130.

Thereafter, Bhambri in presence of skipper Manan Vohra ensured smooth win for the hosts. Bhambri scored unbeaten 100 off 130 balls, with seven boundaries and six sixes, while Vohra added 24 off 31 balls. The star of the match for Chandigarh was the 20-year-old Nishunk Birla, who took a total of 12 wickets. Bhambri was awarded the Man of the Match.

Chandigarh’s next match will start from November 13 against Saurashtra at the same venue.

Sarkar, Roy rescue Tripura

Tripura recovered brilliantly from 71/5, to take a 162-run lead against hosts Chandigarh on the third day of the Col CK Nayudu Trophy match, at Mahajan Cricket Ground, IT Park. Tripura’s second innings started on a rough notes, as half the side was back to hut at 71. However, Sentu Sarkar (69) and Durlab Roy (40) added 98 runs for the sixth wicket to help the side post 169/5, at the end of the day’s play. The duo remained unbeaten. Harshit (3/38) claimed most wickets for the bowling side.

Earlier, after restricting Tripura for 216 runs, Chandigarh boys also collapsed at 223 and got a slender lead of seven runs. Neel (51) scored a half-century, while Harman (43) and Nikhil (37) were the other scorers for the hosts. Diptanu Chakraborty took four wickets for the bowling side.
