The details of the functions were announced by Rajya Sabha MP Satnam Singh Sandhu, Mayor of Chandigarh Harpreet Kaur Babla and state president of the BJP Jatinder Pal Malhotra, along with various stakeholders of Chandigarh at a press conference in the Press Club here today.
He said that this campaign aimed to connect every stakeholder— from youth to veterans — in a unified celebration of India’s journey of unity and progress. The BJP state president said that Chandigarh would actively participate in the movement. The campaign will unfold in two phases.
Sandhu, who is in-charge of ‘Sardar @150 Unity March’ in Chandigarh, said that as part of the nationwide celebration in the first phase, district-level padyatras, 8-10 km, would be held from October 31 to November 15. Activities will include essay and debate competitions, nukkad nataks and cleanliness drives. Swadeshi fairs, Nasha Mukt Bharat pledges, yoga and health camps and cultural programmes will cover the entire parliamentary constituency with participants taking the Atmanirbhar Bharat pledge and offering floral tributes to Sardar Patel.
In the second phase, a national march (November 26-December 6) will be held. A 152-km march from Karamsad (Sardar Patel’s birthplace) to the Statue of Unity, Kevadia, featuring exhibitions and cultural shows will be held, where eminent scholars will narrate the life and legacy of Sardar Patel. Registrations and participation details are available on the My Bharat portal. Sandhu said over 55,000 youth from Chandigarh had already registered for participation in this mega event in Chandigarh.
