Chandigarh: Blaze in furniture market, 5 shops gutted
Chandigarh, January 30
A major fire broke out at furniture market on the road dividing Sectors 53-54 here on Tuesday morning, ravaging at least five shops. According to the police, no loss of life was reported, but goods worth lakhs of rupees were damaged. The cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained.
According to the Chandigarh Fire Service, soon after getting information about the blaze, 6-7 fire engines reached the spot and launched a dousing operation. “The fire spread to at least five adjacent shops,” an official said. Earlier in June 2022, several furniture shops were gutted in a fire incident in the same market.
