Showing concern over reports of patients being fleeced by private ambulances in various parts of the country, the UT Administration today fixed the hiring charges for ambulances to be used by citizens for transporting patients within and outside Chandigarh.

As per an order issued by Deputy Commissioner Mandip Singh Brar, any breach will invite action as per law, which may include cancellation of the driving licence of the ambulance driver or cancellation of the registration certificate of the ambulance. Non-compliance of instructions may also lead to impounding of the ambulance and imposition of penalty starting from a minimum of Rs50,000.
