Chandigarh launches livestock vaccine drive

The UT Animal Husbandry Department today launched the first round of brucellosis vaccine drive at Maloya village to control the livestock disease by 2025 and eradicate it by 2030.

The drive was launched under the Central Government’s National Animal Disease Control Programme (NADCP) for the eradication of foot and mouth disease (FMD) and brucellosis in livestock.

The programme aims at vaccinating over 21,000 livestock — cattle, buffalo, sheep, goats and pigs — of Chandigarh for free against the FMD and all bovines female calves against the brucellosis disease.

Tejdeep Singh Saini, Director, Animal Husbandry, said all eligible population female calves would be vaccinated under the programme, which would be concluded in the next 15 days. — TNS
